Crossing The Bar

Musical tribute to my dad Geoff Pilkington, 6th April 1957 - 14th April 2018

Composed the night we were informed he wasn't coming home, played at his funeral as per close family request.

My dad grew up in the town of Newton-le-Willows just outside of St Helens in Merseyside, where me and my siblings now live. He spent most of his youth here, then in his late teens set off on his first Navy stint. For the next few decades he was in and out of Navy duties right up until me and my siblings were born in the early to mid 90's. He passed away peacefully after a short battle with cancer, helped across the line by the staff of Willowbrook Hospice in Prescot, and close family by his side.

In the weeks before his passing, we were talking about his life in the Navy, and his outlook on how things were going to pan out. He said to me "Navy servicemen don't die, we just cross the bar and await our next adventure"
